Pri tome za sad ostaju čvrsto kod svoje odluke, da stave F35B na svojih 11 velikih brodova za amfibijske operacije.

Turkey Puts F-35 Order on Hold Over US Refusal to Share Technology

(Source: Today’s Zaman; published March 23, 2011)

Turkey has announced that it is putting the planned purchase of 100 F-35 fighter jets from the US on hold because the Pentagon refuses to share the source code used in the software designed for the aircraft as well as the codes that might be used externally to activate the planes.

Defense Minister Vecdi Gönül said on Tuesday, following a meeting of the Defense Industry Implementation Committee (SSİK), that the negotiations over the F-35 procurement tender had not yielded “satisfactory results.” He said, “We will evaluate the order in the next meeting, in light of the progress made in the talks by then.”

He said much ground had been covered in the talks in terms of technology sharing, but this was not enough for Turkey to accept the jets. He said the costs of the project had also increased but that the Turkish side had failed to secure the source code and the remote flight codes for the planes for which it will be paying $16 billion.

Without the source code, Turkish engineers wouldn't be able to make any changes to the software that operates the jets. The external flight codes are equally important, if not more, as they can be used externally to navigate the jets.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Chief of General Staff Gen. Işık Koşaner and Minister Gönül attended Monday's SSİK meeting, which took place at the Undersecretariat for the Defense Industry (SSM) offices.

"line of sight is a feature in any helmet for any fighter plane its an alignment of the pilots eye to the target, Cueing. VSI calibration (its the software issue) for their F35 helmet design is not reliable it has roughly 2-4% chance of error.
Anything else?"

"line of sight is the line between the pilots eye and the target. Effectively its the line going through 3 points rather than just 2, eye, visor, target. In geometry perfect definition of a line can be guaranteed by any 2 points in space, when you bring another point into the alignment you have to make sure its perfectly on line or calibrated.
its not a hardware problem its calibration, its software. Each helmet has to be calibrated to each pilot, the alignment then stored in the helmet memory. If calibration is not perfect or there are errors after calibration, then the angle to cue can be flawed. Means the lock target will not be accurate.
Its a little bit like aiming with a gun. If your alignment is off by a half a mm, for example, following the rules of geometry your error will increase with distance the angle will become wider. When astronomers use optical telescopes they flip them over half way through the tracking of a celestial object, that way they will track two trajectories and its the middle measure that they us"

Nije otkrio toplu vodu, ali mi je interesantno da je još odna pričao o tim problemima.

Znači pilot se ošiša i eto greške. Mr. Green
