RAF jets to face US F-22 stealth fighters in mock battles over UK
Citat:RAF jets will battle American stealth fighters in mock dogfights over Britain for the first time in the coming days.
British Typhoon fighters will take part in air-to-air combat drills against United States Air Force F-22 Raptor jets.
The contests will be the first time the aircraft have gone head-to-head in UK skies, RAF sources said.
A dozen F-22s arrived at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk earlier this week and are due to stay for practice missions with the RAF until the start of next month.
An RAF source said the allies were likely to fight scenarios at both close visual range, where he said the Typhoon might have the edge, and at longer range where the F-22’s stealth was likely to help it triumph.
He said: “What you can’t see, you can’t shoot.
“This isn’t the Battle of Britain, shouting ‘Tally Ho!’, getting behind someone and giving them all guns.
“We are launching missiles from 25 to 30 miles away and flying at supersonic speeds.
“In terms of long range war, I would suggest the F-22 would have the edge. In terms of a pure dogfight, turning and burning, I think the Typhoon would certainly hold its own. It’s two very different fights.”

F-22 Raptors arrive at RAF Lakenheath
Citat:The US Air Force (USAF) is deploying 12 Lockheed Martin F-22A Raptors to Europe for training over the next two months, IHS Jane's was told on 14 April.
From the 95th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron/325th Fighter Wing at Tyndall, Florida, the first four F-22s arrived at RAF Lakenheath on 11 April and a further four on 12 April, with the rest due on 16 April. A lack of tanker support is believed to be the reason they did not arrive together.
The aircraft are expected to stay at RAF Lakenheath for at least two weeks and in Europe for up to six weeks, with visits to other nations, although no one at the base would confirm this.

djox :: HASC directs USAF to look at Raptor production re-start!

Upit je za procenu cene proizvodnje jos 194, rok za izvestaj je najkasnije jun 2017. A Lokid je dao predlog modernizacije 36 Block 20 koji se koriste za obuku, pa da budu na nivou borbenih Block 30/35.
Citat:The air force has no plan to restart F-22 production and therefore has not requested any formal cost estimates in the past year or at any other time since production shutdown,” the service said in a 19 February email. “The air force has no F-22 production restart cost data other than the very rough order of magnitude estimates outlined in the February 2011 RAND study: Retaining F-22A Tooling Options and Costs.”
According to the air force’s summary of the report, it would require approximately $2 billion to resume F-22 production, including $300-500 million in non-recurring start-up costs. Assuming a production run of 75 aircraft over five years, the estimated unit cost would be $233 million.
“The scale and cost of an F-22 production restart has been deemed too prohibitive to pursue,” the air force says.
Roderick McLean, vice-president of Lockheed’s F-16/F-22 integrated fighter group, told Flightglobal at the company’s T-50A next-generation trainer unveiling in February that the air force has asked if would be possible to resume F-22 production. Lockheed’s counterproposal to solving the F-22 capacity issue is to upgrade early-model Block 20 Raptors, which are now used for training and exercises at Tyndall AFB in Florida and Nellis AFB, Nevada. Lockheed delivered 36 F-22 Block 20s and another 149 in the combat-coded Block 30/35 configuration, not including test articles.
