Grci zainteresovani za dva japanska US-2
Citat:Nikkei reported that Japan will begin negotiations with Greece to export the ShinMaywa Industries US-2 as a replacement aircraft for the aging fleet of CL-215s of the Elliniki Polemiki Aeroporia (EPA, Hellenic Air Force).
If such a deal will be realised, it would mark the very first Japanese export of defense equipment. The EPA is still flying with some ten eldery CL-215s (with 355 MTM based at Elefsis air base near Athens) and some seven (a little less eldery) CL-415GR (with 383 MEEA from Thessaloniki-Makedonia air base in the north of the country).
The Greek Government showed interest in the huge Japanese amphibious US-2 aircraft that has a range of 4,700 km and the ability to land in 3-meter waves. A US-2 is said to cost some USD 90 million each.
The US-2 is currently in use with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) for mainly Search-and-Rescue missions and it could easily be modified with water tanks for service as a fire fighter.
