The photo above is extracted from a Syrian media published on the anniversary of Syrian Air Force recently in October 2014. It represent a footage of pair of MiG-29S preparing to take off on the Seen AFB runway (from east to west).
The one on left is serialed 3421, while the right one carries the serial 3425. The latter is very interesting with its R-27 air-to-air missile launch rail fitted on the pylon inboard.

Podaci ukazuju na to da u sirijskim VS-ma postoje 3 lov. eskadrile opremljene 29 ma i to 697,698 i 699

The SyAAF originally acquired 48 MiG-29A and UBs, in the late 1980s; the first unit to operate the type was 697th Sqn, based at Tsaykal AB, at the time commanded by Maj. al-Masry, pilot that shot down an Israeli F-4E Phantom II, on 9 October 1982 (not directly related to Maj. El al-Masry who scored the first two air-to-air victories for MiG-23s, in 1974). Two other units were subsequently formed with MiG-29s: the 698th and 699th Squadrons, both based at Tsaykal AB as well.

Погледај слике јеменских. Већина јесу СМТ или СМТ2. То је изделије 9-18, дакле имају систем за допуну горивом у ваздуху. Сиријски су СМ, наравно вероватно другачији од старих СМ.

Da ,jemenski su SMT izd 9-18 ( T-toplivo zbog uredjaja za dopunjavanje gorivom u letu ) ovi sirijski su nesto kao oni SM koji su jos sredinom 90-tih bili ponudjeni Bugarskoj .. dakle pored raketa V-V mogucnost nosenja vodjenih raketa V-Z .

It also secured orders for the new MiG-29SMT version of the fighter jet, and for upgrading previously supplied aircraft to MiG-29SMT specification. Two MiG-29 jets were delivered to Eritrea in 2001; some time later (presumably in 2005) they were upgraded to MiG-29SMT (9-18 ) spec. In 2003-2004 a total of 12 MiG-29s were supplied to Sudan, which paid an estimated 140m-150m dollars for them. Burma placed an order for another 12 aircraft in 2001; deliveries were made in 2001 and 2002. Finally, MiG secured a large order from Yemen, which bought a total of 20 aircraft and later had some of them upgraded to more advanced specification. In 2001 the country bought 12 MiG-29s and two MiG-29UB combat trainers for 420m dollars. In 2004 it placed another order for an additional six new MiG-29SMT (9-18 ) jets, and signed a contract for upgrading the previously supplied 14 aircraft to the MiG-29SMT spec
