4. General Motors FM-1 Wildcat, USA, 1944. h-m plast. m, 1:72, 21 gr.

























The General Motors FM-1 Wildcat was a license-built version of the Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat, produced by GM's Eastern Aircraft Division during World War II.
Key Specifications & Changes
Production shifted to General Motors in 1942 so Grumman could focus on the F6F Hellcat. While largely identical to the F4F-4, the FM-1 featured notable modifications:
• Armament: Reduced from six to four .50 caliber machine guns. This allowed for more ammunition per gun and saved weight, improving the aircraft's performance for smaller carriers.
• Engine: Retained the Pratt & Whitney R-1830-86 Twin Wasp (1,200 hp).
• Carrier Role: Specifically optimized for use on Escort Carriers (CVEs) in the Atlantic and Pacific.
• British Service: Under the Lend-Lease program, 311 units were delivered to the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm, where it was designated as the Martlet Mk V.
Performance Data
• Top Speed: 318 mph (512 km/h).
• Range: Approximately 830–900 miles (1,336 km).
• Ceiling: 34,000 ft.
The FM-1 was eventually succeeded by the FM-2 Wildcat, which introduced a more powerful Wright R-1820 engine and a taller vertical tail. Today, one of the most famous preserved FM-1s is held by the National Air and Space Museum.



5. Grumman Martlet Mk II, United Kingdom, 1941. h-m plastic m, 1:72, 33 gr.

























The Martlet Mk II was a British variant of the American Grumman F4F Wildcat, famously used by the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm (FAA) during World War II.
While General Motors (Eastern Division) eventually produced thousands of later Wildcat variants (the FM-1 and FM-2), the Martlet Mk II was specifically manufactured by Grumman.
Key Characteristics of the Martlet Mk II
• Engine: Powered by the 1,200 hp Pratt & Whitney R-1830-S3C4-G Twin Wasp.
• Design: Notable for being the first version to feature folding wings, which was essential for storage on the Royal Navy's smaller aircraft carriers.
• Armament: Typically equipped with six .50-caliber machine guns.
• Service History:
o Entered service in late 1941, notably with 802 Naval Air Squadron aboard the escort carrier HMS Audacity.
o Achieved success against German Fw 200 Condors and U-boats during Atlantic convoy operations.
o Famous pilots like Eric "Winkle" Brown scored victories in this aircraft.
The General Motors Connection
General Motors became the primary producer for later versions of this aircraft family to allow Grumman to focus on the newer F6F Hellcat. The GM-built aircraft were designated as follows:
• Martlet Mk V / Wildcat Mk V: The General Motors FM-1 variant.
• Wildcat Mk VI: The General Motors FM-2 variant, featuring a taller tail and a more powerful Wright Cyclone engine.

A oво приказујем данас, Бристол Бофорт Mk I, RAF Middle East Check and Conversion Unit, EK979.
Египат 1944. Торпедоносац.










Раније сам качио макету истог авиона којим је пилотирао Кенет Кембел у нападу на немачки бојни брод Gneisenau, после чега је у разноразним нападима поново оштећен и никад више није запловио. Такође Corgi, 1/72:





Виде се разлике између ова два. На пустињској варијанти, на моторе су монтирани посебни усисници карбуратора, тзв. тропски филтери да би се контролисао улет прашине у мотор.

Такође, иста варијанта на дорзалној страни (леђима) има D/F антену за радио навигацију (од станице и после ка станици).

Saburō Sakai is officially credited with 28 aerial victories based on Imperial Japanese Navy records. However, there is a long-standing discrepancy regarding his actual total due to different reporting methods:
• Official Records: Modern historians generally agree on 28 confirmed kills based on available operational records and cross-matching with Allied losses.
• Personal Claims: In his famous autobiography Samurai!, ghostwritten by Martin Caidin, Sakai claimed 64 victories. Sakai later clarified in interviews that the "64" figure was largely an invention by Caidin for publicity, though he maintained his true total was "not far off".
• Unit Scoring: Part of the confusion stems from the Japanese military's practice of awarding kills to the entire squadron rather than individual pilots, which often led to lower "official" individual tallies.
Sakai remains Japan's most famous fighter ace, notable for surviving over 200 missions and famously flying his damaged Zero for nearly five hours back to base after being blinded in one eye by a bullet.

Ја сам био убеђен да ти поседујеш целу ту колекцију, све бројеве.

Ja sam svojevremeno analizirao tu kolekciju i zaključio da zapravo od 100 modela ima samo 58 različitih tipova aviona, a među njima samo 18 novih tipova japanskih aviona koji se nisu nalazili u staroj IXO kolekciji.

Nabavio sam bar po 1 od tih 18, ali nekih ima i više. Najviše ima modela Zero - osam. Od toga sam nabavio sedam.
Pitanje je da li je racionalno nabaviti sve modele iz jedne kolekcije jer uvek ima nekih koji vam se baš i ne dopadaju ili već imate takve još i bolje iz drugih kolekcija.

Sve u svemu zasad imam oko 75 modela iz te kolekcije i gledaću sada da nabavim još neke.

Ja inače trenutno imam oko 100 modela japanskih aviona (80 onih do i iz WWII i 21 JASDF – posle rata).

Pošto su nedavno predstavljeni modeli aviona MiG-15 i MiG-17 evo sada i njhovog rivala F-86 Sabre.

Ovaj avion je proizveden u 9.860 primeraka u mnogo varijanti a sem USA rađen je i u Kanadi, Italiji, Japanu i Australiji.

The North American FJ-3 Fury was a carrier-based navalized derivative of the F-86 Sabre, designed for the US Navy with a more powerful Wright J65 engine (vs. J47 in most F-86s), four 20mm cannons (vs. .50 cal machine guns), folding wings, and a longer nose gear. The FJ-3 was heavier but often more powerful than F-86 variants, featuring a deeper fuselage for increased fuel.

Key differences between the F-86 and FJ-3 Fury include:
• Engine: The FJ-3 used a Wright J65 turbojet, providing superior thrust compared to the Allison J47 used in most F-86s.
• Armament: The FJ-3 was armed with four 20mm cannons, while most F-86s used six .50 caliber machine guns.
• Carrier Capability: The Fury featured folding wings for carrier storage, a stronger arrester hook, and a longer, stronger nose gear strut to increase the angle of attack for catapult launches.

Key Differences:
Performance & Speed: The F-100 was the first production aircraft capable of supersonic speed in level flight (approx. 760 mph), whereas the F-86 was subsonic, requiring a dive to exceed Mach 1.
• Design & Structure: The F-100 features a 45-degree wing sweep (earning it the nickname "Sabre 45") and is significantly longer than the F-86.
• Engine: The F-100 is equipped with an afterburner, providing much higher thrust compared to the F-86.
• Role: The F-86 was primarily an air-to-air fighter during the Korean War. The F-100 was designed as a follow-on, but primarily operated as a fighter-bomber with nuclear capabilities and extensive ground-attack roles in Vietnam.
