Intervju
An Interview with Euro fighter Programmer, Erwin Obermeier
Citat:SLD: What is your thinking about the upgrade path for the Eurofighter?
Obermeier: I see four major areas to be considered for enhancements of the already existing capabilities ahead of potential threats:
a) Introduction of an active electronically scanned array radar
b) Extension of the Defensive Aids system performance
c) Adaption of engine thrust vectoring
d) Enabling the aircraft for carrier operation.
I have to tell the story when I was in 1991 on a business trip overseas, my management called me back since I made comments against the mechanically driven radar selected for Eurofighter. I have to apologize, since exactly that radar turned out to be a lot better than I could think of. Today I consider the current Eurofighter mechanically scanned radar as the best in his class.
Nevertheless, I believe a modification of the presently installed radar is required for a number of reasons. Mechanically driven radars are limited to cover a maximum of 70 degrees of the sky on either side of the aircrafts path ahead. So we need to increase that to become more capable of a broader range of detection and tracking ranges, advanced air-to-surface capabilities and enhanced self protection measures.
I am absolutely confident that Eurofighter is going to receive a very outstanding and capable E-scan radar in the very near future, which will be adopted by all Eurofighter users.
Citat:SLD: What other elements of the upgrade process do you envisage?
Obermeier: As I mentioned earlier I expect enhancements besides the radar, on self-defence and electronic warfare, thrust vector control and aircraft carrier capability as the major elements to be worked on.
It goes without saying that due to the inherent growth potential in Eurofighter any kind of new weapons required for air-to-air and air-to-surface missions can be integrated.
I do believe that Eurofighter has already the best-integrated self defense subsystem of all combat aircraft available or in development. Besides other features the Defensive Aids subsystem contributes also to reduce the observability of the aircraft.
So therefore, I believe another step in the evolution of Eurofighter should be upon a certain priority on self-defense and on electronic warfare.

Mada sumnjam u ovo. I oni sami demantuju a nebi demantovali de neko trazi njihov avion...
